Bursitis Injury Facts Part 2:

Normally, bursa are flat and contain very little fluid. An injured bursa however, is swollen with fluid and not so flat anymore.

The most common bursitis injuries are:
Prepatellar Bursitis (housemaid's knee),
Superficial Infrapatellar Bursitis (clergyman's knee),
Trochanteric Bursitis (hip),
Olecranon Bursitis (student's elbow) and
Subacromial Bursitis (shoulder bursitis).

Deep Bursae separate bare areas of bone from overlapping muscles.
Superficial Bursae separate bare areas of bone from skin or tendons.

Deep Bursae develop in the womb.

Superficial Bursae develop within months to several years after birth.

Household names for various bursitis injuries include: Popeye's Elbow, Miner's Elbow, Weaver's Elbow, Housemaid's Knee, Hod-Carrier's Shoulders, Dustman's Shoulders, Student's Elbow, and Clergyman's Knee

Dear MendMeShop,

Morning Tanya, You suggested for me to send you a testimony about using the ultrasound system that comes with this special MendMeShop Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel. I have undergone 4 open rotary cuff surgeries in the past 8 years. They all have been very painful and long recovery time. I started using your Ultrasound System back in Feb. of 2010 when I new I had torn my cuff in the left shoulder again shovelling snow and ice. The doctors in my area all said they would have to reopen me again since I had so much scar tissue from the other 2 surgeries in this shoulder. I found your web page and read about your home ultra sound unit. I decided to order it and use it from March till July 2010. I could fell a little difference in the area of pain, but didn't stop it totally. I then went to a Dr. Vic Goridia in Chester, Va. that developed a new procedure with a scope to repair injuries in the shoulder area. After going to him for an examination, he said he could perform the procedure with his scope. I feel that the use of the ultra sound unit and gel helped enough to dissolve enough scar tissue that he could perform the surgery. He was able to complete the tear of the biceps tendon, clean out the remainder of the excess scar tissue, grind down a spur in the joint and repair a surgical mistake from another Dr. 8 years ago because the scar tissue had been reduced enough to complete the process and see inside the area better. I am now 6 weeks out of surgery and I am already moving my arm and shoulder in P. T. and using it in almost all my daily functions. In the other procedures I was still sleeping in a recliner for 8 weeks and taking heavy duty pain killers before starting P.T. I feel the use of the unit and gel did make a big difference in the surgery and recovery of the tear. Looks like I will be able to start grooming dogs again in December 2010 and playing golf by April 2011. Thanks for your help. Tom

Bursitis Injury Facts Part 3:

On occasion, bacteria can invade a bursa and cause an infection. An infected bursa is known as septic bursitis and can be life-threatening if left untreated. So make sure you see a physician!

Septic bursitis is most common in knee joints and elbow joints as the bursae in these locations are close to the skin and most susceptible to bacterial invasion.

It is not uncommon for bursitis to be misdiagnosed as arthritis.

Bursitis is best avoided by staying in shape, taking frequent breaks from repetitive or laborious tasks and cushioning joints if on them for long periods (ie. kneepads for gardening).

A Bursa can swell to a surprisingly large size. In cases of heavy swelling, your physician may choose to drain fluid from the swollen bursa. If a lump is present in chronic bursitis cases, excision may be required.

Clergyman's Knee comes from a more upright posture when kneeling in comparison to Housemaid's Knee. Patients suffering from gout or syphilis can be at higher risk of contracting Clergyman's Knee.

Foot Bursitis Prevention

It's preferable to prevent bursitis and foot pain before it happens. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to reduce the risk of your bursae becoming inflamed.

Early Diagnosis and Treatment

Therapeutic ultrasound is an extremely effective way to treat bursitis pain, swelling and inflammation.

If you notice signs of bursitis (i.e. swelling and pain), diagnosing and treating it early is recommended to avoid frequent flare ups. With chronic bursitis, the bursa becomes damaged leaving it more susceptible to recurring bursitis. Therefore, prompt treatment can help reduce the risk of bursitis becoming an ongoing problem.

Therapeutic ultrasound treatments will reduce the swelling and pain of bursitis AND it will repair the damaged tissue. If the bursa and surrounding tissue is healthier, the risk of bursitis recurring is minimized.

Avoid Infection

Scratches, scrapes, and cuts on the feet may cause infection in a bursa that is close to the surface of the skin. These injuries leave the skin open to bacteria which can easily get inside the metatarsal bursa, metatarsophalangeal bursa, and calcaneal bursa. If any of these bursa become infected, it causes septic bursitis. Symptoms of septic bursitis are similar to non-septic bursitis, however, the area is usually more tender, warm and red and is often accompanied by a fever.

Keeping your foot clean if the skin had been broken will help to prevent septic bursitis. Covering the area with a plaster or gauze and using antibiotic creams can also prevent infection.

Wear Proper Shoes

Wearing

When participating in sports or work activities, wear proper footware to avoid excessive pressure on the joints in your feet.

Wearing well cushioned running shoes or shoe inserts while running and participating in other sports will help to reduce the pressure and rubbing on the bursa in the feet, minimizing your risk of bursitis. Be sure your shoes are not too tight for your feet and avoid high heel shoes when you can to keep your feet healthy and happy.

Foot and Ankle Bursitis Treatments

Relieving the symptoms of bursitis initially focuses on taking the pressure off the bursa. This can be done with proper cushioning, inserts, or footwear but may require surgery if it is a bone formation problem (i.e. Huglund's Deformity). If your bursitis is caused by an infection (septic bursitis), the doctor will probably drain the bursa sac with a needle and prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection.

Success Stories

For non-infectious bursitis, the preliminary treatment starts with non-operative options such as ultrasound thereapy, cold therapy and Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy. Surgery to remove the inflamed bursa is normally not required for bursitis, however if you fail to see improvement with the conservative treatments, your physician may recommend surgery to remove the bursa completely. Although this removes the problem of an inflamed bursa, you are left with less cushioning in your joint which can lead to a host of other conditions.

The most important factor in healing bursitis is resting your foot and ankle. This can be difficult when you have to carry on with daily activities, but resting and elevating your foot whenever you can is recommended. During your recovery you will probably have to modify or avoid the activities that stress your bursa until your pain and inflammation settle.

Treatments should involve decreasing swelling, relieving pain and stress on the foot or ankle, correcting any biomechanical dysfunction (over-pronation or flat feet), treating scar tissue, and then restoring strength and movement. If you are performing an activity that could cause further trauma to the bursa, it is recommended that you protect the area with padding and/or proper footwear to prevent further irritation or damage.

Freezie Wrap® Cold Therapy

The Ankle Freezie Wrap treats pain, swelling and inflammation caused by bursitis while reducing tissue damage.

The R.C.C.E. Treatment Philosophy. This treatment philosophy is used to decrease inflammation and relieve pain of bursitis quickly when it is inflamed and painful.

  • Rest and limit your activity, to decrease swelling and minimize further inflammation in the subcutaneous calcaneal bursa and/or retrocalcaneal bursa.
  • Cool the area of the inflamed bursa to help reduce blood flow and fluid build up.
  • Compress the area if possible by adding light pressure to minimize swelling (make sure the wrap is snug, but not too tight as it could cause numbness, tingling or more pain).
  • Elevate your foot to relieve the pressure from swelling and allow fluid to drain from your foot.

Applying cold to your inflamed bursa will help decrease the swelling and redness around it. Cold compression therapy will also help to numb the pain in your heel and help to control the inflammation.

The Plantar/Spur Freezie Wrap treats pain, swelling and inflammation caused by bursitis while reducing tissue damage.

Cooling the subcutaneous calcaneal bursa and/or retrocalcaneal bursa as needed throughout the day, for approximately 15 - 20 minutes at a time, is recommended.

The cold compression Freezie Wrap® can be used to apply cold in a safe, convenient and effective way - and the gel pack is reusable. Only the Freezie Wrap® gel pack is charged in the fridge. This means the cooling temperature of the gel pack will not cause cold burns, or cryoburn, on your skin like ice or freezie charged gel packs can. You can also treat yourself for longer periods of time so you get lasting pain relief.

The wrap is soft and adjustable so it fits your foot properly, without irritating the bursa, and allows you to adjust the compression. This is important when treating an inflamed bursa because too much pressure can cause you further pain. You control how much pressure the bursa receives so you can benefit from the compression to hold the cold where you need it, without increasing your pain.

How to Order

Applying cold to your tender bursa is the first step in treating your bursitis. Next you can begin using ultrasound therapy.

Ultrasound Therapy

MendMeShop Therapeutic Ultrasound treats prepatella and pes anserine bursitis and reduces inflammation and scar tissue

Ultrasound has been used by physical therapists and chiropractors for years to treat bursitis. By applying ultrasound therapy to your sore bursa you can reduce the inflammation caused by the fluid that has built up.

In addition, ultrasound therapy will treat any other soft tissue conditions that you may be experiencing in your foot such as Achilles tendinitis, gout, arch pain, hammer or claw toe, a heel spur and more. By treating yourself with ultrasound everyday, you are able to rid yourself of bursitis pain; this is best accomplished with a personal, therapeutic ultrasound device.

Scar tissue develops with bursitis and/or tendinitis. As your damaged tissues heal this dead, fibrotic tissue is naturally produced instead of forming brand new healthy tissue. Scar tissue adheres to your muscle fibers, bursa sac, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves causing pain and preventing them from moving properly (this limits your range of motion, flexibility and strength). However, ultrasound therapy can treat scar tissue and the more diligent you are with your treatment and rehabilitation, the faster you will see successful results.

AidMyBursa Customer Reviews

Ultrasound therapy is a great therapeutic option to decrease inflammation, pain and scar tissue build up experienced with bursitis and other soft tissue injuries. The treatment is easy, painless, and generally requires between 5 - 10 minutes of your time. It is based on a form of deep thermal therapy which is generated through high frequency sound waves that reach into the cells of the tissue. These sound waves help to reduce the fluid build up in the bursa, heal any tissue damaged through trauma, reduce scar tissue, as well as reduce any crystal or calcific deposits that may have gathered in the area.

Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel contains the healing power of natural Bulgarian lavender, eucalyptus, menthol, and peppermint.

Using the MendMeShop® Lavender Infusion Gel during your ultrasound therapy gives you 2 therapies in 1. You get the benefit of the regenerating sound waves from the ultrasound device itself AND the added bonus of the therapeutic ingredients inside the gel being delivered into the tissue where it is most effective.

Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel contains the natural essential oils of Bulgarian lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and menthol and is exclusively available from MendMeShop®. These ingredients reduce inflammation, relieve pain and improve blood circulation to your foot. 1 bottle of MendMeShop® Lavender Infusion Ultrasound Gel comes FREE with every MendMeShop® Ultrasound Therapy Unit so you get unbeatable ultrasound therapy for your bursitis.

Inferno Wrap® Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy

The Ankle Inferno Wrap speeds the healing of bursa tissue and the surrounding area.

Once the inflammation of your bursitis has been reduced with cold therapy and ultrasound treatments it is time to improve blood flow and improve the elasticity of your surrounding soft tissue. Your body needs a fresh supply of blood to improve the health of your tissue and get your bursae, plantar fascia, and/or Achilles tendon back to normal.

Unfortunately, when you are suffering from bursitis it is painful to walk and move your foot normally. When you limit movement in your foot the blood flow is reduced, starving your tissue of the necessary oxygen and nutrients. The trick is to find a way to increase blood flow without causing pain and/or further inflaming the bursae. This is where Blood Flow Stimulation Therapy (BFST®) becomes a powerful tool.

The Plantar Inferno Wrap speeds the healing of bursa tissue and the surrounding area.

BFST® compliments your body's natural healing process by promoting the flow of blood to your foot while you give it the rest it needs. The Inferno Wrap® uses a patented process to generate the same energy that is part of the sun's spectrum of light, the same energy that is necessary to all living things for optimum health.

The energy emitted from the Energy Web® stimulates blood flow to your foot, more than you body would ever be able to generate on it's own, giving your body the boost it needs to continue the reconditioning process.

The healing energy reaches deep into your bursae, tendons, ligaments, and fascia to speed tissue repair, whisk away the toxins and dead cells, and rejuvenate your foot and ankle tissues for improved elasticity.

Dear MendMeShop,

Prompt shipping. Arrived at my US address within five business days. Nice letter from the president indicates the company takes pride in its products. Well written instructions. No poor grammar you sometimes find in manuals for other products shipped from Asia (e.g., "Be sure to device turn off when done.") I occasionally get inflammation in the soft tissues of my elbow from a radial head injury I received while playing basketball several years ago. Tired of buying joint supplements and getting only marginal results from applying heat and ice, I started looking for something new. After using the ultrasound device 1-3 times a day for 3 weeks I have noticed improvement. Less discomfort in my elbow means less inflammation. The therapeutic gel is a nice addition. The menthol in the gel is not overbearing and does not leave an offensive smell that fills my office like some other creams. I am pleased with the product and will definitely continue to use. Dear MendMeShop,

I learned about your product from surfing the net looking for natural ways to heal tendon injuries. What I read on your site made sense to me. Your explanation of soft tissue injury healing, plus your money back guarantee led to my purchase of your products. I am very happy with both of the items I bought from your company! The pain in my elbow, which was a constant shooting pain, is gone! I am still using the Elbow inferno 2x/day and the ultrasound as fits my schedule. Thank-you so much for offering this kind of a product - I was determined not to go to a doctor. With your company's help I succeeded in mending at home and am back to my work out routine as before.
